ALBA Educational Programme 2026–2027
The ALBA Synchrotron Educational Programme is aimed at High School students (pre-university students from 16 to 18 years old). Guided by an ALBA educator, students will discover what a synchrotron is, how it works, and how it is used in fields such as chemistry, biology, medicine, environmental sciences, computing and physics.
Through this booking platform, you can reserve two types of educational activities:
1) Discover the ALBA Synchrotron from the inside. An on-site activity at ALBA combining an educational workshop with a guided tour of the facility. The workshop includes theoretical explanations and hands-on experimental demonstrations, while the guided tour allows students to explore the experimental hall and see several of the synchrotron's beamlines.
- Duration: 3 hours (9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
- Group size: 18 to 35 students.
Each visit day can accommodate two parallel groups, each with a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 35 students. These groups may belong to the same school or to different schools. If your group has more than 35 students, you must book two visit groups.
- Available languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.
- Fee: €90 per group (up to 35 students).
The following schools are exempt from paying the participation fee:
- Schools located in Cerdanyola del Vallès.
- Schools classified as high- or maximum-complexity schools.
- Schools located more than 70 km from the ALBA Synchrotron.
ONLY IF YOUR SCHOOL MEETS AT LEAST ONE OF THESE REQUIREMENTS, please select the "WORKSHOP + VISIT | FREE" product. Otherwise, please select "WORKSHOP + VISIT | PAID".
The participation fee contributes to the development and maintenance of ALBA's educational programme, helping us provide a high-quality educational experience rather than a standard guided tour. It covers a three-hour activity led by specialised educational staff, that combines a guided visit to the facility with an experimental workshop specifically designed for high school students. The fee represents approximately 40% of the actual cost of delivering the activity.
2) Connect with ALBA. A free virtual visit via videoconference. Led by an ALBA educator, this activity allows students to discover the synchrotron and its scientific research from their own classroom.
- Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes. Sessions: 10:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m.
- Recommended group size: up to 25–30 students per session.
- Available languages: Catalan, Spanish and English.
- Fee: Free of charge.
Waiting list. If a session is fully booked, you can join the waiting list. Your registration will be confirmed immediately on the website. If a place becomes available, you will automatically receive an email with a link to complete your booking.
